The Basin

The lock keepers duties included Toll Collection and maintenance of the basin, canal towpath and hedgerows.

Thames & Severn canal on left; entrance to
Basin on right under bridge.

To navigate the canal Alfred had a very basic, flat bottomed punt.
Daughter Biddy in the punt at the junction of the two canals.
The Thames and Severn is behind her.
