An Interesting Week
at
Latton Junction

On the Tuesday, straight after the August Bank Holiday, Cotswold Canals Trust began a week long work party at the Junction.  Augmented by volunteers from other groups they began to clear the canal bed and towpath around the Junction bridge.  At some time tons of builders rubble had been tipped in the canal making the dredging no easy task.  Some of the rubble was re-cycled to form a solid base for an improved tow path.  In spite of the very changeable weather conditions the work went well and the junction is now well defined and will, I'm sure given the weather forecast, soon be full of water.  The Junction and the Basin have now become a very popular area for walkers to stop at and an excellent place for us to promote the canals and the benefits of the restorations.

A little bit of excitement.  The Esso helicopter which flies regularly along the route of the adjacent oil pipe landed close by.  They just wanted to check that everyone was aware of the pipe.  No problem and they left satisfied.

There is a brick culvert here.  When clear it should drain the field.

Moving down the canal the digger removes the soil and allows the water to drain.

Tuesday Evening.  I was in Swindon again so I thought I'd get some pictures of the finished work. To my surprise some of the team were still there working.
